Utility Tax Avoidance Programme – UTAP for short

SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern supports the UTAP. This is an excellent way to save money on your energy bill. In Germany, electricity and natural gas are taxed at 19 per cent, whilst water is classified as a foodstuff and is therefore taxed at just 7 per cent. Unless you register for the UTAP, your energy suppliers must automatically add these taxes to your bill.

Registering for the Utility Tax Avoidance Programme (UTAP) saves on tax and is open to all members of the US Armed Forces and authorised members living off-base. A one-off service fee will be charged by your VAT office upon registration.

UTAP Order Form for Electricity, Natural Gas, District Heating and Water Supply

To participate in the UTAP scheme, the UTAP office must sign the order form for your utility services. You can download and complete the order form here. Links to the order forms can be found at the top of this page.

Payment made easy

Participation in the UTAP scheme requires a SEPA direct debit mandate. The agreed payments are due monthly. The amount of the payments is generally based on the size of the property, the customer’s previous consumption and the number of occupants.
