Next Monday, 9 September, at around 2 pm, traffic will be allowed to resume on Burgstraße, north of the Fackelbrunnen. Buses will then be able to turn round the fountain again, and routes 103, 106, 111 and 115 will once more stop on the south side of the fountain. The temporary ‘Stadtmitte Y’ bus stop in front of the Vapiano restaurant on Richard-Wagner-Straße will be closed.
From now on, routes 105 and 107 will also stop directly at the Fackelbrunnen: towards the main station on the new bus platform on the north side, and towards Kammgarn on the south side of the fountain. For the first time since the 1990s, these routes will then travel straight on from the station along Eisenbahnstraße and Schneiderstraße right through to the city centre. Although this means the stop on Karl-Marx-Straße will be omitted, the Marktstraße stop in front of Sissi & Franz will now also be served on the journey into the city centre. This not only shortens journey times but also improves access to the pedestrian zone for many passengers. This also marks the implementation of the first point from the new local transport plan, which provides for this route.
The temporary stops on Martin-Luther-Straße will be discontinued. On the plus side, the previously long walking distances for passengers when changing buses will now be significantly shorter again. And the good news, particularly for students at the university: routes 105 and 107 will once again serve the Mühlstraße bus stop.
To make room for a right-turn lane towards Fackelbrunnen at the Maxstraße/Burgstraße junction, buses on routes 102 and 104 heading towards Pfaffplatz will, from next Monday, stop approximately 60 metres above the stop they had previously been serving on a temporary basis. To accommodate this, two car-sharing spaces will be relocated to Willy-Brandt-Platz next to the SWK’s electric charging points, whilst two short-stay spaces with parking meters on Maxstraße will be removed.
There will be no changes for routes 101, 108, 112, 113, 114 and 117; buses will continue to stop on Maxstraße or on Burgstraße in front of the Burggymnasium.
A map showing the new locations, including the partially revised departure points for the night buses, has been published on the SWK website.
