Laptops for local schools

SWK supports digital education SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern has donated a total of 156 laptops to the City of Kaiserslautern’s Schools Department. The aim is to give pupils better access to modern technology. The computers are between 1.5 and 5 years old and have been fitted with new hard drives. Eleven schools in Kaiserslautern are benefiting from the donation.
Three people in the office are handing over laptops, symbolising digital equipment and collaboration at Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern.

The donated laptops come from the company’s stock and were taken out of service as part of the ongoing development of the internal IT strategy. Nevertheless, they remain ideal for use in schools. The devices are to be used in particular for project work in the classroom and to enhance digital literacy. This will enable pupils to improve their skills and give free rein to their creativity.

“For us, sustainability also means passing on fully functional devices when they no longer fit within our IT strategy. It is wonderful to know that, with these laptops, we are now creating real added value for pupils in our city. Education and digital inclusion are particularly close to our hearts,” explains Dr Arvid Blume, CEO of SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern.

Beate Kimmel, Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern, adds: “Digital equipment is now an essential part of modern education. We are delighted that the laptops are opening up entirely new opportunities for pupils in the classroom. Our Department for Digitalisation and Innovation is preparing the computers accordingly. With the support of the municipal utility company, we are thus contributing to digital equality of opportunity in our schools.”
