What should you bear in mind when there is a change of tenant?
If a new tenant moves into your property, they should register or change their registration as soon as possible. This will help avoid delays in utility supply and billing.
You can find out what you need to register in the Helpdesk article ‘Registration, change of address and deregistration’.
Registration and deregistration can be carried out either by the tenant or the landlord.
If the owners wish to register the tenant themselves, they will also need the tenancy agreement, as well as the meter numbers and meter readings.
Letting to shared flats (WGs)
If a flatmate moves in or out, this constitutes a change to the tenancy agreement. In this case, a new tenancy agreement is usually required.
Renting to US citizens
When registering, please note that most US citizens are exempt from tax. To process the tax exemption, we require the VAT form and the order form. The tenant can obtain these from the relevant VAT office.
When your tenants move out, we require the meter readings at the time of handover, signed by you, so that we can issue an immediate final bill
