Garden water meter

Is it worth it?

Garden water meter

With the SWK garden water meter, you can reduce your wastewater charges. Our energy advisers will work out whether installing one is worth it.

How a garden water meter can help you save money

Of course, you can water your garden and property using your registered main water meter. However, it is usually more cost-effective to use a garden water meter. This is used to measure water that is not discharged into the municipal sewerage system or a collection pit.

The benefit for you: when using a garden water meter, you won’t be charged a wastewater fee for the water used in your garden. We at the SWK Energy Advice Centre would be happy to advise you in advance on whether installing a garden water meter is worthwhile for you.

Potential savings

Smart watering saves money

Depending on your consumption, there is significant potential for savings on your sewage charges. In accordance with the regulations of the Kaiserslautern Municipal Sewerage Authority, all our customers with a main water meter receive a 10 per cent discount on their sewage charges based on their total fresh water consumption.

This means that every customer pays sewage charges on 90 per cent of their fresh water consumption. With a garden water meter, you can reduce this proportion even further. This is because all the water used in the garden is exempt from these charges.

A garden water meter is therefore always cost-effective for you if the proportion of water used in the garden exceeds 10 per cent of your fresh water consumption and, furthermore, the savings generated cover the installation and purchase costs.

Always in your favour

With SWK’s best-price billing, you’re not locked into anything when you have your garden water meter installed. If, however, your share of water used in the garden in any given year falls below 10 per cent of your total water consumption, that’s no problem: you’ll automatically be charged the 10 per cent rate that you’d receive even without a garden water meter.
