Drinking water from the region

From the region straight to your house:  we extract approx. 7.2 million m3 per year of ground and well water in three standalone regions.

Our water sources

The water comes in part from a natural spring named Lauterspring. In addition, ground water is pumped from 20 wells at a depth of 35 to 210 meters.

Why the water is treated

The pumped ground and well water is very soft and low in minerals by nature - actually the ideal drinking water. If it weren't slightly acidic from the naturally occurring carbon dioxide. The acid would corrode the supply facilities, resulting in corrosion. There would be brown discoloration and changes in the taste of the water. For that reason, we deacidify the water in Kaiserslautern.

We deliver the best water quality

By nature, the water is hygienically incontestable and practically germ-free. Therefore, desinfecting the water is usually not necessary. Just to be safe, we have installed a UV-system as an additional safety barrier. And in the unlikely event the limit values are exceeded, the use of chemicals is not necessary.

How much water does Kaiserslautern need?

On a peak day in the summer, the consumption is approx. 30.000 m3.

A total of 13 reservoirs are available in the supply region Kaiserslautern. The volume totals 17,710 m3. The water stored not only covers the demand for drinking water. The fire department also uses the water for fighting fires. The existing storage volume is enough for half a day, measured on the peak consumption of one summer day.

How does the water get to you?

A supply grid extending over 454 km ensures that you are supplied with water. Roughly 20,000 houses have a water connection. To invoice the water consumption, we read 34,000 water meters every year.
