Obligation to replace
The obligation to replace meters and the calibration intervals are statutory requirements set out in the Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG) and the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance (MessEV), which is why we are also obliged to replace the relevant meters.
Calibration intervals
What are the calibration intervals for the most commonly installed standard meters?
Electricity: Electronic meters – 8 years; Ferraris meters – 12–16 years
Gas: Generally 8 years
Cold water: 6 years
Hot water: 6 years, since the amendment to the MessEV in 2021
Heating: 6 years
For all categories, an extension may be granted, subject to a random draw where necessary.
- Meters have a specific calibration validity period, which may vary depending on the type of meter and sector. These calibration validity periods can be extended on a batch-by-batch basis through random sampling procedures.
- The samples are selected by a randomisation process and must be tested within a fixed two-week period in accordance with strict legal requirements; for this reason, we may contact you at short notice by telephone to arrange an appointment during the testing phases.
- If you have any doubts as to the authenticity of our call, you can contact our customer service team during our opening hours.
