Connection to the network

Important information about natural gas connections
Every year, we transport around 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of natural gas safely and in an environmentally friendly manner via our pipeline network to where it is needed: to industrial, commercial and domestic customers in the Kaiserslautern area.
The network connection links the pipeline network to the natural gas installation of the connection holder or connection user.
General Information
The installation of network connection pipes is carried out in accordance with statutory provisions, regulations (including the NDAV), technical rules and standards, as well as the relevant provisions of the Building Regulations.
The Low-Pressure Connection Ordinance (NDAV) sets out the general conditions under which network operators, in accordance with Section 18 of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG), must connect anyone to their low-pressure network and make the connection available for the withdrawal of gas.

Minimum technical requirements pursuant to Section 19 of the Energy Act (EnWG)
In accordance with Section 19 of the Energy Act (EnWG), SWK, as the network operator, is obliged to lay down minimum technical requirements for the design and operation of network connections. These minimum technical requirements are generally deemed to have been met if the statutory provisions and the general rules of good engineering practice, in particular the rules set out in DVGW Worksheet G 2000, are complied with.

Gas Network Access
In accordance with Section 20 of the Energy Supply Act (EnWG), energy network operators must grant everyone objectively justified, non-discriminatory network access and publish the terms and conditions, including model contracts for such network access, on the internet.
Network access is administered in accordance with the Gas Network Access Regulation and the associated network access contracts.

Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Versorgungs-AG operates a natural gas network approximately 691 km in length. The network area covers the districts of Kaiserslautern, the town of Otterberg and 19 municipalities in the wider Kaiserslautern area.

Description of the network
The final distribution network operated by Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Versorgungs-AG is connected to the network of the upstream network operator, Creos Deutschland GmbH, via 20 physical transfer points.

Have you received a gas bill and are wondering what terms such as ‘billing calorific value’, ‘condition factor’ or ‘thermal energy’ mean? Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds. We explain the key points in our Helpdesk article so that you can better understand your bill.
Billing calorific value
In accordance with Section 40(1), first sentence, No. 7 of the GasNZV, the network operator is obliged to publish the billing calorific value for the previous month in the distribution network at all entry and exit points on the 10th working day of the month. The information must be published in a standard format.
The billing calorific value is the average calorific value to be used as the basis for billing for a billing period.
It indicates how much energy is contained in the natural gas based on its chemical composition. The calorific value of the natural gas supplied to the distribution network is measured continuously, with the weighted average for the relevant billing period being used in the thermal gas billing.

Basic supplier
Designation of the universal service provider for natural gas in the SWK network area
In accordance with Section 36 of the Energy Supply Act (EnWG), operators of general supply energy networks are obliged to designate the universal supplier for the next three calendar years every three years, with effect from 1 July, commencing on 1 July 2006. The universal supplier is, in each case, the company that supplies the largest number of domestic customers within a general supply network area.
