Is your consumption unusually high?
If your consumption has risen unusually sharply, there could be many reasons for this.
Examples include new, energy-hungry electrical appliances, deposits in the gas boiler, or a hot summer combined with thirsty plants. However, if you really cannot explain where the extra consumption is coming from, in rare cases a fault with the metering equipment may be the cause.
We recommend that you first commission a licensed engineer to investigate possible reasons for the increased consumption. These specialist firms can carry out tests such as leak detection in the gas and water systems, or use electricity consumption meters to check the usage of individual electrical appliances – for example, to see whether your new fridge is using more power than expected.
If the installer finds nothing, you can request an inspection of the meter.
The examination of the findings
The procedure for the examination of findings is as follows:
Meter replacement
The meter, which is believed to be faulty, is replaced with a new one, which is then left in place.
External audit
The removed meter is sent in for testing.
Assessment of functionality & costs
If the meter is faulty, SWK will cover the costs. Otherwise, the customer must bear the costs.
These vary depending on the sector and the type of meter.
