SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern establishes a new company for charging infrastructure

Kaiserslautern Municipal Utilities is joining forces with seven other municipal and local authority utilities from the region. Together, they have set up a new company, “Ladestationen Südwest GmbH & Co. KG”. This company will consolidate the e-mobility charging infrastructure and drive its development in the region.

The good news is that the merger offers many advantages – both for the companies and for their customers. At first glance, nothing will change for customers. All charging cards will continue to work as normal at the new company’s charging points. Crucially, the merger ensures that the region’s charging infrastructure is maintained. Furthermore, the new company will capitalise on synergies and continue to drive forward the expansion of the network with combined resources in future.

“As an energy partner for the Palatinate, the operation and expansion of charging infrastructure is of enormous importance to us. By merging with other municipal utilities in the region, we are creating a strong foundation. We benefit mutually from each other’s experience and expertise. In this way, we are ensuring an even wider range of services and better availability for our customers. This makes the transition to electric mobility noticeably easier,” emphasises Sophie Knecht, the new managing director of Ladestationen Südwest GmbH & Co. KG.

SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern is currently contributing 111 charging points to the network. At launch, the new company will manage and operate a total of approximately 260 charging points.

The founding members of the new charging point company are: SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Versorgungs-AG, Gemeindewerke Haßloch GmbH, Stadtwerke Kusel GmbH, Stadtwerke Neustadt an der Weinstraße GmbH, Stadtwerke Ramstein-Miesenbach GmbH, Stadtwerke Zweibrücken GmbH,
Nahwerk Energie GmbH & Co. KG, and abita Energie Otterberg GmbH

Further partners from the region are welcome to join. Interested companies should contact: Sophie Knecht (Managing Director of Ladestationen Südwest GmbH & Co. KG), SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern, Services Sales, Bismarckstraße 14, 67655 Kaiserslautern, telephone 0631 8001-2417, sophie-charlotte.knecht@swk-kl.de.

Legal basis for the company’s formation: Under the new Energy Industry Act, electricity network operators are no longer permitted to own or operate charging infrastructure. In the past, this business area was often successfully integrated into municipal and local authority utilities.
